Almost every space heater on Amazon’s best-seller list is a 1500 W ceramic box, so on paper they’re close to identical. US outlets cap plug-in heaters at that wattage, and five of our six picks hit it. What actually separates them is how they control that heat, how loud they are while doing it, and how many owners say the thing quit before spring.

How we picked

We started from Amazon’s Heating, Cooling & Air Quality best-seller lists on October 28, 2026, and kept the space heaters with the most owner feedback. That’s 14 heaters. For each one we compared thermostat type, oscillation, noise claims, warranty and safety features. Then we looked at the topics owners bring up most and what share of those mentions are negative.

The short version

  • One room, quiet nights? Get the DREO HSH006. It has a precise thermostat and a remote, and owners rate it the quietest of the bunch.
  • A wider room or a couch you share? The DREO Atom One oscillates 70°.
  • Hate warranty paperwork? The Lasko 751320 comes with 3 years, no registration.
  • A den or open kitchen? The Dr Infrared DR-968 is heavier and built for bigger spaces.
  • Cold hands at a desk? The Gaiatop 500W is tiny and draws a third of the power.
  • Least money for a small room? The Amazon Basics ceramic does the basics and nothing more.

Where the reviews split

Star ratings run from 4.4★ to 4.6★, which tells you very little. Reliability is the story here:

Heater Reliability mentions Negative share
DREO HSH006 875 45%
Dr Infrared DR-968 1,114 59%
DREO Atom One 782 69%
Amazon Basics ceramic 933 75%
Lasko 751320 1,043 78%

That’s why the HSH006 stays on top. The Lasko’s number looks worst, but it’s the one heater with a 3-year warranty out of the box, and that changes the math. Some “it keeps turning off” reports describe the thermostat pausing once the room is warm, which is normal. Plenty don’t. We left out the GiveBest PTC-905, even with 82,000-plus ratings, because 86% of its reliability mentions are negative.

What owners like

The HSH006’s best topics are hard to argue with: 94% of performance mentions are positive, along with 92% of heat-output mentions and 96% of noise mentions. For a heater beside a bed, that last number matters most.

The Dr Infrared is a different animal. It weighs 19 pounds, rolls on casters and looks like a small wooden cabinet, which 92% of appearance mentions like. Its noise topic is 86% positive. It doesn’t oscillate.

The Lasko’s tall tower and remote please owners, at 88% and 85% positive. Its thermostat moves in 5-degree steps, though, and 38% of temperature-control mentions are negative.

Buying advice

Plug it into the wall. A 1500 W heater pulls about 12.5 amps on high. Extension cords and power strips can overheat at that load.

Use the thermostat, not the high setting. Both DREO models let you set a target between 41°F and 95°F. Pick a number and let it cycle.

Register the warranty. DREO’s default is 12 months, extended to 30 if you register. Given the numbers above, that’s five minutes well spent.

FAQ

How big a room can a 1500 W space heater warm?

A common rule of thumb is about 10 watts per square foot, so 1500 W covers roughly 150 square feet in a typical room. DREO claims up to 200. A drafty room, high ceiling or cold climate shrinks that number.

Are ceramic space heaters safe to leave on overnight?

All six picks have overheat shutoff, and all but the Lasko list tip-over protection too. Safety agencies still advise turning heaters off when you sleep or leave the room, keeping them 3 feet from anything that can burn, and plugging them straight into a wall outlet, never a power strip.

Why does my heater keep turning off?

Often it's the thermostat working: once the room reaches your set temperature, the heater pauses. If it shuts off well below that, check that it's on a wall outlet by itself and that the filter or grille isn't blocked. Then contact the brand under warranty.

Do space heaters save money?

Only if you use one to heat the room you're in and turn the main heating down. Every 1500 W heater uses the same 1.5 kWh per hour on high, whatever the box says about efficiency. ECO modes help by cycling down once the room is warm.

How we put this together

We compared manufacturer specs and Amazon listing details, read the patterns in Amazon owner reviews (we refresh this snapshot regularly), and scored each product with our published rubric. We have not tested these units hands-on. When we do, the page will say so. Prices change constantly, so we link to the live price instead of quoting one.
